Introduction

What are your qualifications?

Let me address that in two parts, and then I’ll bring them together.

First, my writing: I have been writing something for as long as I can remember–stories, poetry, plays, songs, essays, picture books, term papers… I love to write. I am the published author of two biographies, one on Cyrus McCormick and the other on Nikola Tesla. If you want to know more about these books and other things I’ve written, I would be happy to send you my complete Info Packet.

As for education, I have a Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and a Doctoral degree (Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology. I am a state-licensed marriage and family therapist and a state-certified addictions counselor.

I have over 22 years experience in the mental health and addiction fields, working with children, adolescents, and adults across every economic strata, from the homeless to the very wealthy. My clients have included those suffering from depression as well as those debilitated by severe and persistent mental illnesses. I have worked extensively as a pre-commitment investigator, full time and after-hours crisis worker, and many years as a treatment provider for both adolescent and adult Drug Courts. I have 22 years experience working with the criminal population—those on probation or parole, those in jail and, most recently, in a maximum-security prison, where my clients are the most mentally ill male inmates in the state.

I am a graduate of several highly specialized copywriting courses, including those in direct marketing and persuasive writing, as well a business-to-business (B2B) writing course, all of which were taught by some of the world’s premier copywriters. (When I sent in the first draft of the final project for the B2B course, the instructor wrote back, “Perfect. I wouldn’t change a thing!”)

My experience as a therapist and as a writer eminently qualifies me to write for you. I know how people think. I know what touches them, what motivates them to action, and what paralyzes them into a state of inaction. Working with people for over 22 years has taught me what charges them emotionally, and I skillfully incorporate that into my writing.

I am 100% confident that I can deliver what you need

You mentioned copy critique? What is that?

A copy critique provides an objective view of a piece of marketing that is either in draft form or that you are already using. I will examine it and provide you with a written report that analyzes your copy in detail. I’ll tell you what’s good about it, what doesn’t work, what should be changed, and how it should be changed.

It’s kind of a “second opinion” on existing copy. I’ll help you inject new life into it so it provides robust returns.

How long does it take you to write my copy?

I like to have two to three weeks to research, polish, edit, and revise until I am happy with every word.

However, I realize that you can’t always wait that long, so if the job a “rush job,” just let me know that date you need it. If I can’t deliver in that amount of time, I will be completely honest with you. I won’t start a job I know I can’t finish. That’s not fair to you.

But if I can deliver, I promise you that I’ll have it by the due date–or sooner. No matter what the deadline, the copy I deliver to you will be right. You can count on it.

What happens if I’m not 100% satisfied with the copy?

Just tell me what needs to be improved and what the changes are, and I’ll make them…fast. There is no charge for rewriting. Revisions are included in the flat fee we’ve agreed to for the assignment, provided they are assigned within 30 days of your receipt of the copy and are not based on a change in the assignment made after the copy has been submitted.

What will this cost me?

Go here for my schedule of estimated fees for various types of copy.

By the way, I prefer to think of “fees” as “investments,” because you are investing in my skills to help you improve your business.

OK, so back up a second. What might this whole process look like from beginning to end?

Glad you asked! Go here for a description of How I Write.
